Touching Place

Touching Place is a quarterly newsletter aimed at keeping Christian Communities and individuals in contact. Roberta and Pam have taken over the editing and we are hoping that the next edition will be out in May. We are trying to guage interest in forming a directory for Christian Communities of all denominations or whether this quarterly newsletter is sufficient.

Please contact us if you wish to be on the Mailing List via the email below.

Why call it "Touching Place"?

In the person of Jesus, God met, touched and healed people. Not least in places where people live as a Christian community, we believe that God continues to be present, meeting us, touching us, healing us. Every Christian community is a 'Touching Place'.

History

The Touching Place newsletter was founded in 2003, published by The Neighbours Community in Northampton and edited by Roger Sawtell with the invaluable support of his wife Susan. Roger retired in 2006 and the newsletter was formally handed over to The Pilsdon at Malling Community.

What is a Christian Community?

Residential Christian communities are described as groups of people committed to sharing their daily lives in response to the Gospel. They are sometimes called 'intentional communities' and include the traditional monastic orders as well as the more recently established lay communities.

The word 'daily' is important as it denotes a different set of relationships to that of congregational churches which normally operate on a 'weekly' basis.

Because the pattern is daily one, such communities usually live under the same roof, or closely adjacent roofs, so that they can pray together every day. It is a different rhythm to a weekly church service and out of such daily prayers, the heartbeat of the community, come all kinds of everyday community concerns and action.

Touching Place newsletter and website are intended to unite residential Christian communities in the sharing of values, experiences, observations and needs.
